The Future Auto Service Family visited the 2024 LA Auto Show! If you are as eager as us to learn more about the next generation of mobility that was displayed at the LA Auto Show, keep on reading for valuable insight on everything that stood out to us this year⚡️
First stop.. PORSCHE!
It's no secret that here at FAS, P Cars have a special place in our hearts. From rear-engine flat six-cylinder 911s to the all-electric Porsche Taycan, our team had quality time with pretty much every single Porsche model generation. This was the first year Porsche was represented by the Porsche of downtown LA dealership. They featured a variety of interesting cars such as various 992 generation Porsche 911 model trims.
Two models specifically stood out to us here: A 992 Porsche 911 Dakar in the iconic Roughroads livery as well as a show-stopping 992 GT3 RS.
The Dakar trim of the 992 Porsche 911 is a nod to Porsche's Rally legacy, specifically the legendary Paris to Dakar rally which Porsche dominated in the 1980s. This example is powered by the same engine as the 992 Carrera 4 GTS model putting down 473 horsepower to all wheels and making 0-60 in just 3.4 seconds. What sets the Dakar apart from other 911s is the 80mm lift, offroad tires, and dedicated Rally Sport drive modes. With only 2500 units made, the Dakar is definitely not regular traffic, even for Los Angeles. The Rally Design Package also features custom, 3 stage paint work that resembles Porsches iconic Rothman's livery from the 1980s.
Now to the showstopper in the room. The 992 GT3 RS. It's probably the brand's most hyped-up car over the last two years and rightfully so once you see one up close in person. The bodywork and aerodynamics from front to back are utterly impressive to the eye but still hold the traditional 911 silhouette which we all love and appreciate. Powered by a 500-horsepower naturally aspirated flat six-cylinder engine, Porsche continues to push the limits of its internal combustion platform on the race track and on the streets. Hands down one of our favorite cars of the LA Auto Show!
West Coast Customs
One of our favorite exhibitions was a room of curated vehicles by West Coast Customs. The center of attention was a customized Maybach that was featured in Jay-Z and Kayne West's music video "Otis". The car had a nearly $350,000 price tag when new but received a wide-body treatment, door and roof delete as well as a bonnet and trunk swap. Say what you want about the car from a stylistic standpoint, both artists generated over 247 million views on YouTube alone when driving around with it in their music video. While the car was auctioned for charity afterward in 2012, it is impressive to see such a cultural relic of pop culture in person after all these years.
Other builds in the room we less outrageous but complemented to the overall vibe. A purple Mercedes SL500 on air suspension and huge wing, various restored American classics with custom paint work, and last but not least an old school Mini Cooper in pink made for eye-catching rides along the way to our next stop..
Cars in Action! Jeep, Ford & Volkswagen driving experiences
If you are tired of looking at parked cars all day, this is the right experience for you! Particularly, Jeep and Ford offer exciting off-road-inspired obstacle courses that will put big smiles on all your entire family member's faces. Simply get in line and appreciate various Jeep and Ford models in action while a professional maneuvers smoothly across various ramps and inclines to showcase the incredible capabilities of these awesome four-wheel drive rides.
Volkswagen showed out with their brand new VW ID. Buzz 1st Edition. A fully electric reimagination of the iconic Volkswagen Transporter. And the best part about it? You can get a ride along in it! The ID. Buzz rode smoothly through tight corners around the course of the Volkswagen's driving experience, leaving you wanting to drive it more yourself. Talk about a great way to introduce a futuristic car to a new market!
In addition, Volkswagen also offered driving simulation experiences that let you get in the seat and behind the wheel to race against friends and family. Even cooler, your driving input actually powers a real-life R/C car that is set up on a real race track. This fun and engaging experience seemed to be a highlight of the LA Auto Show, particularly for younger enthusiasts.
