I'm female and this is the only place ill go. It's nice to find someone I trust to look at my car. To the few people that gave this place anything less than 5 stars...maybe the problem was YOU :) This place rocks! This is coming from a girl who learned to change her own oil and belts because I've been ripped off so many times. *****INFO****Don't call, just go by. Chalard isn't going to tell you what he "thinks" is wrong..he needs to see your car for a proper diagnosis. Plan on leaving your car and having someone take you home. He will call you later that day or the following morning/afternoon. I've taken my car during super busy times but still had it back the same day or following day. You can trust Chalard's.

He's a good guy and does a good job at a very fair price. It probably cost me half the price of one of the big chain auto shops. Heads up though, his accent can be a little hard to understand.

My car had been overheating this past weekend and with a set business trip down to San Diego, I had to quickly find a shop! I decided to bring it to the nearest and highest rated place in my area, so when I showed up to Chalard's, I literally thought I could not be at the same location that so many of our fellow yelpers had been so optimistic and praiseworthy about. The shop seemed disorganized, unkempt, and shady. I met Chalard, left my car, and prayed that I would not come back to a $5000 bill, both in regards to my wariness of the shop as well as my actual engine issues. less than two hours later, I get a call from Chalard telling me that the problems were extremely minor and told me that everything had been fixed. Once I arrived, Chalard pointed out to me the replacements he made and the condition of my car. When I asked him how my car was doing overall, if he had suspected anything else that could be improved or fixed, he replied with, "it runs very well, I would never let anyone leave here if their car was not in the right condition to drive. Chalard won't meet greet you with a smile and ask you how your family is, he won't show up to work in a suit, and most certainly: he won't lie to you. He is a man of few words but he is an honest and extremely direct man, a characteristic that is extremely rare to find these days, ESPECIALLY in the auto mechanic industry. Chalard - if you are reading this, thank you for your honesty and integrity. I won't be going anywhere else!

After going to a well-known chain auto repair shop and being given an astronomical repair estimate, I was referred to Chalard's. I decided some of the positive reviews on Yelp had to be true, so I took a chance and dropped my car off for repair. I was amazed when the phone rang 3 hours later and the repair work was finished. Chalard replaced my 2 front axles for less than he quoted me, adjusted my clutch for free and told me I didn't need new brakes yet. That well-known chair repair shop told me I needed to replace 2 sets of brake pads, something I doubted at the time and Chalard proved was unnecessary. This man is as honest as they come and I trust him with all the repair work on my car. By being honest and fair, he all but assures the public will be knocking on his door and he will always be busy. It's hard to find honest people in the auto repair industry. When you do, you want to tell everyone you know. My brother will be taking his SUV in for work next week. Chalard's is as good as it gets.

So here I go, Chalards auto repair is ok. Cheap yes, fix right the first time "sometimes". This is a good place to go if you are broke. The mechanics here are more like "Shady tree mechanics" replace parts until it works. I use to take all my cars to him but its really hard when you have to take it back 2-3 times to get it right.

I'm reluctant to write this review because Chalard is the best kept secret in auto repair - and I don't want all of you crowding his lot! He's fast, cheap and honest - that's right, HONEST. Hands-down the best mechanic in LA.

Im very car illiterate, have no idea about cars and Yelp helped me out. I never write reviews, NEVER, but I have to write about Charlards. A friend of mine from San Francisco is a car repair guy so I kept calling him for help on my car, and from the symptoms of my car he said I might need a new clutch that would cost me about $900-$1000 for a great quality clutch or he even told me I can go the cheaper route and get a crappy clutch for $500 or less if I needed to save. I didn't think I can afford the clutch but I needed whatever was best for my car and my financial needs. So I went with my best interest. I found Charlards on YELP, from the GREAT REVIEWS, I decided to go to him. He told me that my clutch would cost about $400 after I picked up the car. So I paid him thinking it was probably the worst quality clutch I received after he didn't ask me what kind of clutch I needed or how much I wanted to spend. When I got my car and drove it, it felt like it was brand new again assuming, OK my car is fine, it isn't that bad so I didn't think it was a big deal. So I called back my friend who's an expert and an auto repair guy, and told him about it. He said that it may be a fake and that my car would break down in less than a year if I paid that much for the clutch. So he told me to take a snap shot of the receipt and invoice and researched on it. He then told me that the auto repair guy (CHARLARDS AUTO REPAIR) gave me the best quality clutch and HOOKED IT UP!!!! My friend, the auto expert, and myself tells you and all the yelp readers or anyone who needs a car fix, to go to this guy. Hands down best auto repair fix guy in town and affordable.

We decided to give Chalard a try after reading reviews on here and after getting outrageous quotes around town from other shops. I have an 03 Saturn pushing 200k and it's begun dying a slow death. Apparently the wheels are the first things to go. We needed a wheel bearing and the rear brakes fixed and had been quoted from 300 - 650 at other shops. Just on a whim we took it to Chalard to get an estimate. He didn't even look up, said "160. Bring it in friday" and that was that. What he lacks in social etiquette he makes up for in speed, price, and quality. And thats not to say he was nasty to us, but we felt like he was kind of blowing us off and wondered if he'd really get to it in the time frame he gave us. He is incredibly busy, so that's likely part of it. He finished it a full day early. I can hear my own thoughts inside my car again. And I didn't have to sell my body to science to get it fixed. Plus, he fixed some extra little things for free - it's running better than it has in 3 years. It is so hard to find a mechanic where you dont feel you just got raped and sold a bunch of crap you didnt need. Chalard is my guy from now on. Also, seriously don't let the appearance of the lot or his kind of dismissive attitude run you off. (The appearance is a plus in my opinion, looks like a really busy chop shop) He takes checks, beats his own time frame and estimate, and takes the time to do little extra things. Love this man!

He is truly the real deal! He is very honest and will NOT ask you to do things to your car unless you absolutely need it! My bill was UNDER the estimate he gave me. SAY WHAT?! All auto repair people are not shady =)

Chalard is great. He's fast and his actual bill always comes in UNDER his estimates. Tell me a mechanic who charges under his estimates. Highly recommended.
